NASHVILLE TRIO ‘The Band CAMINO’ DROP SURPRISE SUMMER SOUNDTRACK ‘BRUISES’
EP REVIEW | The Band CAMINO – BRUISES by Keira Knox
The Band CAMINO, a trio from Nashville consisting of Jeffery Jordan, Spencer Stewart, and Garrison Burgess, has released their unexpected new EP, ‘Bruises.’
The Band CAMINO transforms emotional upheaval into stadium-sized singalongs by rafting guitar-driven songs accentuated by pop palatability and raw honesty. With releases like the My Thoughts On You EP (2016), Heaven EP (2017), tryhard EP (2019), self-titled debut LP ‘The Band CAMINO‘ (2021), and their sophomore LP The Dark (2023), the group has honed a distinctive sound. ‘2 / 14‘ one of the many beloved songs by fans, accumulated 90 million streams, trailed by ‘See Through‘ with 67 million and ‘Daphne Blue‘ with 66 million.
‘Someone Who’s Trying‘, the first song on the EP, is an infectious and candid track. With beautiful piano-driven melodies, deep and powerful drum beats alongside soft, uplifting vocals, set the tone for the EP: hope and triumph. It is bouncy, vibrant, and everything you could ask for in a classic indie-pop song. It also creates an incredibly euphoric vibe. With the EP released just before the summertime months, I can guarantee that it will soundtrack your summer of 2024. This song evokes the feeling of watching sunsets from a hilltop place as the temperature drops and a gentle wind blows through.
The standout song on this EP is ‘Nostalgia‘, an incredible indie pop tune. The album is filled with a sense of hope and happiness, which is further enhanced by the scratchy and dreamy guitar riffs. In the song ‘When the music plays, I sing along and dream of yesterdays‘, the lyrics discuss the carefree and exuberant feelings that accompany adolescence. It concerns the feeling of longing for better times and experiencing an intense and overwhelming sense of nostalgia; an emotion synonymous with a modern-day listener.
The final track on this EP, ‘Bruises‘, adopts a far more downtempo sound than the previous tracks on this record. This intensely emotive track is driven by beautiful harmonies and weeping guitar chords. The heartbreaking and poignant lyrics paired alongside the acoustic tones, further reflect the sincere emotions within the track. Even though it adopts a much more subdued approach, this EP is wonderfully captured within this tune.
For fans of The 1975, The Wldlfe, Nightly and flor, this EP is for you!
The Band CAMINO (alongside support act, Knox) will be playing headline performances across the United States this summer as part of ‘The Taking Shape Tour‘. We look forward to welcoming the trio to the UK soon!
