Aim For Two (Amanda McEachen/Northern Exposure)

LIVE REVIEW | NORTHERN EXPOSURE LIVE w/ Aim for Two, Day Drunk, Julia’s Bureau & medb | CLASSIC GRAND, GLASGOW | 17th October 2025 by Anne Kelly

Earlier this month, Northern Exposure joined forces with Glasgow grassroots promoter B12 Entertainment to deliver a specially curated line-up of some of our favourite upcoming artists on the local scene. Hand picked by Northern Exposure, the four acts: medb, Julia’s Bureau, Day Drunk, and Aim for Two entertained over 100 enthusiastic music fans at the Classic Grand lounge in Glasgow on Friday, October 17th.

MEDB

The night kicked off with a lively performance by singer/songwriter medb, who quickly drew us down the front, igniting a dance party by the end of her brief yet captivating set. Performing all original material on the night, medb showed no shortage of talent as she mixed retro disco beats with oozes of 70’s New York garage rock flair. Accompanied by a tight-knit three-piece band, her playful stage presence shone as her bandmates laid down the infectious beats she danced to. Although the medb fan club was small, their enthusiasm and energy more than filled the venue. Ending with her infectious single ‘Puppy’, medb encouraged the crowd to leave their inhibitions aside and come closer for the choreographed dance.

Medb is popping up all over Glasgow at the moment, and next month will open for Laura May Carter at McChuills on November 26th. Tickets on sale now.

JULIA’S BUREAU

The next act on Friday’s Northern Exposure lineup was the Glasgow-based quartet Julia’s Bureau, who wasted no time diving into their performance. Initially showing a hint of stage fright, they quickly found their rhythm, delivering a set that featured their latest singles, ‘Astronaut In Comparison’ and ‘Capital Offence’. Their jangly, infectious sound resonated with the audience, prompting nods and subtle foot taps throughout the room. The band’s dry humour shone throughout the set, particularly with frontman Euan’s endearing awkwardness, as he playfully acknowledged the “school disco” atmosphere of the empty space in front of the stage, before joking about feeling old compared to the younger crowd and quipping about his niece calling him “Unc.”

Even with the disappointing lack of egg shakers for ‘Signature Look‘, all is forgiven as the band have made a tight impression of the room and we look forward to seeing what they get up to next!

DAY DRUNK

Day Drunk emerged as a standout favorite of the evening, captivating the audience with their infectious energy, vibrant personalities, and impressive musicianship. The trio seamlessly commanded the Classic Grand stage, quickly engaging the crowd, which filled the room, raring to go! Their midwest emo-inspired punk melodies melted with frontwoman Leah Batty‘s rich, honeyed vocals. The setlist featured popular like ‘Cardigan‘, ‘Pretty Little Punk‘ and their latest release, ‘SMILE‘, while they also delighted fans with a charming cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s ‘Dreams‘.

Never far from their next gig, we highly recommend you hop along to Day Drunk‘s next show near you!

AIM FOR TWO

Tonight’s main event featured Aim for Two, who brought a dedicated crowd from their hometown of Dumbarton. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation even before the band struck their first chord. Led by the gravelly-voiced and charismatic frontman Rory, Aim for Two delivers a powerful, guitar-driven rock sound, with each member exuding a captivating presence. Their well-rehearsed set included their latest track, ‘Pieces’ which led a sense of camaraderie as fans enthusiastically sang along to every song. Taking time to stop and initiate a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for one member of the crowd only added to the collected atmosphere and a left us with sense of pride that we love to be part of.

Another incredibly tight live band, it’s hard to believe that the artists on the line-up have only really started to make their stage debut in the city recently. Aim for Two are already making huge waves locally and they will no doubt take that energy beyond the local scene soon. Until then, you can catch the band alongside Levongrove at McChuills for a double whammy headliner on December 5th! Tickets can be found here!
