PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT CELEBRATE ‘SUBSTANCE’ ALBUMS IN EPIC DOUBLE HEADER TOUR
PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT | NOTTINGHAM ROCK CITY | 18/10/2024 by Anya Forrest
When we throw about words like legendary and iconic, I think we’re all guilty of a bit of hype exaggeration. One band though who have defied the hype many times over the years is the ultimate celebration of Joy Division and New Order – Peter Hook & The Light.
Both iconic bands in their own individual right, Peter Hook remains the common denominator between the two. This Autumn, Peter Hook & The Light set off on a UK tour celebrating both band’s ‘Substance‘ albums in full.
With no support acts scheduled for the tour, the show kicks off early at 7pm and shuffles through nearly 3 hours worth of music. A greatest hits set of both bands, the first half of the show belongs to New Order featuring renditions of Ceremony, Temptation, Sub Culture and of course the band’s biggest hits, Blue Monday and True Faith.
The second half of the epic set pays homage to Hooks first and most renowned creation; Joy Division. A band who could have had the world in their grasp, yet succumbed to devastation before they really had the chance to flourish when lead singer Ian Curtis tragically took his own life in 1980. Hearing these classic tracks always evokes a strong feeling of emotion and Peter Hook & The Light continue to do the songs justice without becoming a tribute act or parody of the band.
Disorder, She’s Lost Control, Shadows Play and Transmission get the strongest response of the night before the bands peak ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart‘ echoes in sentiment as the show’s finale.
Peter Hook & The Light have managed to turn a legacy into an accomplished act which fulfils it’s own fantasy whilst still appearing humble in their wake. What Hook does best, is being capable of keeping aging setlists fresh; often performing a more diverse line up of songs which is then mixed up and recharged from tour to tour. Whether you love or hate them, this evenings show is an emotionally charged tribute two bands who shaped a generation.
Set to continue to thrill fans across the South of England, Wales and Ireland over the next couple of weeks before returning in April for a brand new tour. Performing ‘Get Ready‘ live in full plus more greatest hits, Peter Hook & The Light are the gift that keep giving.
