INTERVIEW | PRINCESS SUPERSTAR by Gracie Erskine

After thirteen years away, Princess Superstar returns at a moment when the music world has finally caught up. With her new single ‘YUM-ME’, she bridges the gap between Y2K nostalgia and modern innovation, proving that some legends don’t just age – they upgrade. Reclaimed and recharged, we caught up with the icon to discuss her return to the spotlight, her visual obsession with Chaos Dreamland, and the “renewed gratitude” fuelling her latest evolution.

13 years since your last album, what makes NOW the perfect time for a Princess Superstar comeback?

I think musically the world has caught up to what we were all doing in the 2000s. And then in my personal journey this is the perfect time in my life for me to return to what I love with renewed gratitude and awe.

How did ‘YUM-ME’ come into existence? What was the collaboration process with Two Planets and Eloise Keeble?

We first started talking on zoom and collabing that way. I didn’t think it was possible to actually make anything that way but it ended up being genius. And those guys are so sweet and excited about things like I am.

Then we all came together in a London studio and it was magic !

The video for ‘YUM-ME’ blends vintage aesthetics with Y2K obsession in such a modern way, what was the process behind making it?

Great that’s exactly what I was trying to achieve! I was obsessed with Chaos Dreamland’s imagery on Instagram and asked her to do it. Turns out she was a fan from a kid growing up in the uk so it was perfect.

If you could describe the new era of Princess Superstar in one word, what would it be?

Princess Superstar 2.0

I know that’s 3 words lol

With the HUGE success of Perfect(Exceeder) in Saltburn, if there was scene/movie for your latest track ‘YUM-ME’ what would that look like?

Ooh I would love a really steamy sexy scene or some kind of crescendo of payback time for “Mean Girls” or something ha ha.

Whilst some new, younger fans might know you through Saltburn, others know you from your work with Lana Del Rey. Do you think that could be a relationship that could be re-kindled, possibly with an official release of some of your unreleased collaborations like ‘Golden Grill’ that have shown themselves on the internet?

You just never know!

The Princess Superstar comeback comes in a wave of excitement, you’ve got such an extensive career and really know your touch. Is there anyone you would want to collaborate and cast your Princess Superstar spell on?

I’m holding out for Pharrell. I’ve been wanting that one since 2000.

As a UK based magazine, can us international fans be expecting a tour anytime soon?

I’m playing Bitch Please in London in July!
