QUICKFIRE WITH COPPER LUNGS
Introduce yourselves…
We are Copper Lungs and are made up of Darren (singer/guitarist) Inaxio (Guitarist/Backing Vox) Liam (Bass) and Evan(Drums).
Tell us about your new release
‘Life Your Way’ is the latest single in a run of new music from us. It’s about struggling with the anxiety of loss but living on afterwards in a way that respects those who have left us. ‘Life Your Way’ is energetic, emotional and hits hard! It’s our favourite of the newest three songs and we can’t wait to see how people react to it.
How would you compare this track to any previous releases?
I think there is definitely a theme in the stories of these new songs, dealing with loss, grief and coping through high-stress situations in my life, similar to ‘Life Your Way’, except this hides darker meaning behind a hard-hitting upbeat song which I love.
The song stands out for me in its simplicity: it’s not overcomplicated but delivers the message through what we see as a very powerful and direct song.
Inspiration behind your band name?
A very long time ago, I saw a video on YouTube of Twin Atlantic playing King Tut’s, and the lead singer had the word ‘Lungs’ written on his chest. I always had this stuck in my head. I wanted two words, so I looked at the periodic table from chemistry class, probably Breaking Bad inspired, picked the word Copper and there we had it – Copper Lungs.
What’s your favourite song you have written/released?
This is always a tough one! These songs all mean so much to me as I’ve been writing a lot about things that have happened in life in the last few years – mainly people very close to me going through loss, and they all tell a different part of that story I’ve lived. So I have to say ‘Life Your Way’ stands out to me from the released tracks so far.
What’s your current favourite song from someone else?
If I have to pick one song right now, it would be ‘Better Hell’ by Bilmuri as it’s been on repeat in my car.
If you had the opportunity to write an album other than one of your own, which would it be and why?
Hands down, I would write a country album! I love country tunes and it’s not something we can take much inspiration from in this band, so I would love to do something out there that people would never expect, much like the Post Malone album.
Best Scottish band ever?
This is so difficult. Biffy Clyro are up there of course as they are one of the biggest, but some of the unsigned bands on the scene over the years have been amazing. I have to admit I still listen to a lot of Fatherson and always have, so they’d be up there with my favourites.
A band you would love to see reform?
Lower Than Atlantis! They were great. When they changed to more catchy rock stuff, I thought those albums were so good and loved them.
Any gigs/festivals coming up?
We are currently booking some gigs that I can’t yet talk about, but we are confirmed for the Heartland Festival on the main stage next year, and we are already so buzzing! It will be the biggest stage we’ve played so far and we can’t wait to leave it all out there.
Dream venue?
I mean, the Hydro would be insane, but there’s something about Barrowlands that just hits so hard in Scotland. So if the opportunity presents itself, I would be happy with either!
Future plans?
Lots of music, lots of gigs, with 2025 being the biggest year for the band so far.
If we see you at the bar, what you having to drink?
Rum and apple juice.
