RICHARD ASHCROFT RETURNS WITH ‘LOVER’ A NEW CHAPTER IN HIS STORIED CAREER

A shimmering, heartfelt anthem of devotion, Lover sees Richard Ashcroft soaring with timeless melodies, uplifting jangle rock, and the passion of a stadium-filling legend.
Few artists have left their mark on British music as boldly as Richard Ashcroft has. Spending years harnessing his talents and perfecting his craft, his writing has scored generations, tugged at the heartstrings, and resonated on a profound level with music lovers. And now, as he prepares for a summer of gigging on the road, he delivers his brand-new single, ‘Lover’, returning in triumphant style with new, inspired material.
While Lover doesn’t break any new ground, is a testament to Ashcroft’s ability to craft enduring songs. Lover pulses with an underlying energy, Ashcroft as always understands his audience and delivers a track that feels timeless rather than chasing fleeting trends. It’s big-hearted, infectious, and tailor-made for stadium singalongs. Whether you’re a longtime fan of his or a newcomer, it’s a track that captures the essence of why Ashcroft remains a beloved figure in British music.
With a radio debut on Radio 2 by Vernon Kay, ‘Lover’ is Ashcroft’s most powerful album since his 2018 top four album ‘Natural Rebel.’ Since ‘Natural Rebel,’ he returned to his core ethos with ‘Acoustic Hymns Vol 1,’ a stripped-down anthology of his greatest work, which reached number two, indeed his highest charting record in fifteen years.

Typical of Ashcroft’s style, ‘Lover’ combines classic reference points and modern flourishes. Recorded after the classic ‘Love and Affection’ by Joan Armatrading, a track he and she both love, the single reworks an old theme on his own terms, combining nostalgia and innovation in a sophisticated, affecting piece of music.
Outside of the track itself, Ashcroft’s own artistic ideal also emerges in the video, which has been filmed on CUBE StudioX’s virtual production through LED panels. Filmed in an extensive studio space, the imagery drops the viewer into a space designed to match the depth and intensity of the track, a testament that as much as a songwriter, Ashcroft’s also an atmosphere builder. His legacy speaks for itself, naturally: two Ivor Novello Awards, three UK number ones and a discography that has indelibly touched the fabric of British music both as part of The Verve and as a solo artist. ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’, ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’, and ‘Lucky Man’ remain cultural reference points, a sign of his continued ability to connect and move us.
This summer, Ashcroft embarks on a string of live dates, bringing his music to sold-out rooms and festivals across the UK and Ireland. Performing to old and new fans alike, whether with old classics or new material, his stage presence remains unmistakably electric, his voice, unforgettable.

As ‘Lover’ signals the dawn of a new period of creative production, new music will be here before long. One thing is certain, Richard Ashcroft continues to make music for the soul.
