RINGO STARR DISSPELLS RUMOURS ABOUT LENNONS VOICE ON ‘NOW AND THEN’
A rumor that John Lennon’s real voice is missing from The Beatles’ new single ‘Now and Then’ has been dismissed by Ringo Starr.
Earlier this month, Starr and Paul McCartney shared ‘Now And Then’ – the last track from The Beatles to feature all four original members. The track stems from a demo tape recorded by the late Lennon and was completed with the help of AI – which lifted the songwriter’s vocals off the initial recording and allowed the surviving members to work with them, rather than recreating the artist’s voice altogether.
Starr previously said that he thought the project was “beautiful” and admitted that working on the single was “like having John Lennon back”.
However, some fans have been sceptical and questioned whether Lennon’s real voice is truly heard on the track. Starr has now addressed these claims, stating that he is “disappointed” by the rumours.
In a recent interview with AARP, Starr dispelled rumours. “There were terrible rumours that it’s not John, it’s AI, whatever bullshit people said,” he said. “Paul and I would not have done that. It’s a beautiful song and a nice way to finally close that door.”
The release of ‘Now And Then’ marked the first time all four members of The Beatles had released a new single together since 1970. It has been met with critical acclaim and has become a fan-favourite among Beatles fans around the world.
Despite some scepticism, Starr’s statement reinforces the idea that Lennon’s real voice is indeed heard on the track. The technology utilised to complete the song was innovative and groundbreaking, allowing for the preservation of Lennon’s vocals in a way that would have been impossible in the past.
Since the Beatles’ first number one, ‘Now And Then’ has topped the charts six decades later.
Having achieved this feat, McCartney and co. now have the longest gap between their first and last number one single – ‘From Me to You’ in May 1963 (60 years and six months ago).
