King Tut’s Summer Nights sessions came to a penultimate peak on Friday night with Glasgow‘s favourite electronic duo, Roller Disco Death Party. The four band bill, also featuring iwanttobeontv, SZLISKA and Bad Gravy, is clear evidence that the future of Scotland’s electronic dance music scene is in very safe hands.
iwanttobeontv
iwanttobeontv were certainly a highlight of the night for me. The singer was born to be on the stage. She gave an incredible performance with so much energy. I felt they perfectly encapsulated that messy party girl aesthetic in a performance. I also adored the heavy live drums. This is certainly an act to keep your eye on.
SZLISZKA
SZLISZKA were beyond incredible. I really enjoyed the almost dark wave vibe they brought to the stage. The packed out King Tut’s crowd was utterly entranced by their electric energy.
Bad Gravy
A tangible buzz of anticipation hung in the air ahead of Bad Gravy’s set. From the moment the first song started, the crowd were utterly enamoured. They’re always really great fun to see live; every song is incredibly groovy and the lyrics are very tongue in cheek. I advise everyone to hop on the Gravy train before it leaves the station for a Hydro headline.
Roller Disco Death Party
Roller Disco Death Party are nothing short of phenomenal. The duo’s effortless fusion of electronic and dance punk transported me to a world of my own. The entire crowd couldn’t help but dance.
The live drums are what makes the performance complete. While Neal is a fantastic composer and is brilliant with the synths, Amelia brings the performance to a whole new level.
Their track ‘Day By Day’ was incredible to hear live, and I immediately recognised it from having featured in episodes of Late Night at the Euros.
The set ended with Scott and Sam of Bad Gravy returning to the stage to join the duo for a cover of Blur‘s ‘Girls and Boys’. The crowd simply couldn’t get enough of them.
