SAM FENDER ANNOUNCES HIGHLY ANTICIPATED THIRD ALBUM ‘PEOPLE WATCHING’
By Keira Knox
If ‘Seventeen Going Under’ was Sam Fender’s “coming of age” album, ‘People Watching’ is his next big step: vivid tales and observations of regular people going about their everyday lives, which often prove remarkable.
‘People Watching’, which will be released by Polydor Records on February 21, 2025, is sure to be Fender’s greatest body of work to date. Produced over a two-year period with bandmates Dean Thompson and Joe Atkinson, first in London in 2023 with producer Markus Dravs and then earlier this year in Los Angeles with Adam Granduciel of The War on Drugs, an artist Fender has always admired.
Tish Murtha, a well-known social documentary photographer who was born and raised in South Shields and has covered working-class life and marginalised communities in Newcastle upon Tyne, took the album cover photo. This topic, which combines lively rock with songs that critique the detrimental impacts of austerity, is consistent with Fender’s music: the experience of young, left-wing northern England.
Sam Fender has already sold out stadiums, become a true household name, and headlined summer festivals like Reading & Leeds and Boardmasters thanks to his reflections on life as he experiences it. With more than 140,000 tickets sold out for his UK arena tour next month, Fender is taking a huge step forward for whatever comes next.
