SINGER/SONGWRITER LIV DAWN SHARES BLOSSOMING DEBUT EP – BEAUTIFUL DAYDREAM
Last month, folk-pop Scottish singer-songwriter Liv Dawn released her debut EP, Beautiful Daydream.
Originally from Loch Lomond, Liv is inspired by the country’s stunning picturesque surroundings and uses her music to capture that beauty and serenity. At just 24 years old, the folk songstress is a delicacy to the listening ear. The EP consists of five captivating songs; Pretty People, I Love You, It’s Beautiful, Belong and title track Beautiful Daydream.
Pretty People
The track listing opens with Pretty People. An earlier single, Pretty People captures Liv’s inviting vocals beautifully. Like a warming comfort, the vocals melt against the melodic backdrop. With unmissable landscape references throughout, the underlying message of moving on is apparent.
Flowing from emotions of sorrow and betrayal to relief and joy, the lyrics of Pretty People dive into the process of finding self-worth and looking after oneself. Referring to nature and creating imagery to express inner feeling, the song, ultimately, is about finally letting go of the past and seeing life in a different light, which is both beautiful and exciting.”

I Love You
The next track, I Love You, is a rich acoustic number which celebrates the joy sharing your life with another person.
Speaking of the special connection that comes from creating memories and living life together as one, I Love You reflects on how someone can guide you through your darkest times and make you a better person.

Liv’s second single from the EP, I Love You gained heavy praise when she won Leigh Folk Festival Open Mic competition performing this track earlier this summer.
It’s Beautiful
It’s Beautiful is simply just that. The highlight of the EP and most feel good melody yet. This one really captures the essence of being connected to nature. The instrumentation on this It’s Beautiful works so well, especially the building string accompaniment. Begining with a stripped back melodic guitar, the addition of string backing creates a intensive ambience which continues to build on definition throughout the song.
Released on 18 August, Beautiful Daydreamer was written, produced recorded with Aidan Smith, fellow musician and good friend of Liv Dawn. The pair recorded the EP across 3 different locations including Caribou, 45 A-Side Recordings and their own home based studio.
Belong
Belong continues with the same serene ambience the EP has already established whilst benefiting from the use of vocal layering. Belong really showcases Liv’s beautiful vocal tone and the versitile range of which she is capable of. In 2019, Liv Dawn was one of a very select few who reached the finals of BBC Radio Scotland Singer/Songwriter of the year award and this debut EP is a testament to talent spotted so early in her singing career.
Beautiful Daydream
Finally the title track, Beautiful Daydream which wraps the short journey to its conclusion. A track full of optimism, hope and acceptance, Beautiful Daydream captivates the entire blossoming energy of this debut EP.
Beautiful Daydream is a reflective collection of songs which explore the ‘highs and lows’ of love – romantically, for ourselves and for the landscape that nurtures us. A true reflection of maturity which will resonate with many.
An impressive debut which should appeal to a mainstream audience as well as a more traditional folk one. For fans of Katie Melua or Eva Cassidy, Liv Dawn is a name you will likely continue to hear for a while yet.
