SOMBRE YET LUMINOUS | NEW SINGLE ‘GO TO THE SUN’ BY SARAH KLANG

SINGLE REVIEW | GO TO THE SUN – SARAH KLANG by Rachel Puk

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Taking her listeners on a journey to comfort is precisely what Sarah Klang does in this mellow and warming track. Go to the Sun is the first single given in the run towards her upcoming fifth studio album, ‘Beautiful Woman’, which is set to be released this spring. In her irrevocably auto-biographical fashion, Klang’s lyrics are the emotive paintbrush on a hazy, golden canvas, where we cannot help but search for hopeful horizons and tender connections.

Klang layers calming acoustic melodies on the mournful glide of the slide guitar. Listeners ride the currents alongside Klang through the sunset air she creates, as we are drawn in to her soundscape. Her country twang carefully carries us through the stretches and bends of the journey to those better places, whether it be literally or metaphorically, hopeful or bittersweet.

Working together seamlessly, the interplay between Klang’s heartfelt vocal tone and humming bassline weaves a more solemn tension throughout the track. The track is anchored by its sense of fragility in reaching an idyllic state of mind and being. Klang creates a sombre pull throughout the calm surface of the melody. She reveals the hidden complexities of longing.

Klang’s simple yet introspective lyrics invite the opportunity for an intimate and reflective listening experience; she is set to tour her new album across Europe, this coming February, where her personal songs will have the opportunity to be brought to life on stage.

Flecks of yearning and vulnerability are undeniable within this single. Through the push and pull between anticipation and resignation, Klang allows hope to win. With a faster tempo and glittery guitar, Klang’s final notes embody an unrestrained and luminous persona, whilst the slide guitar takes us to a gorgeously cathartic finale, where Klang will “go home to you.”
