SPACEY JANE BRING THE HEAT TO A CHILLY MELBOURNE EVENING

LIVE REVIEW | SPACEY JANE w/ The Moving Stills and Phoebe Go | PICA, MELBOURNE by Alira Fratantaro
On a crisp winter’s night in Naarm/Melbourne, Spacey Jane delivered an electric set to a packed out crowd at PICA on Tuesday the 17th of June, the first of 2 sold out shows in the city. Riding high off the back of their latest album If That Makes Sense, the Fremantle four piece reminded us why they’ve become one of Australia’s most beloved acts.
Kicking off the evening were Central Coast favourites The Moving Stills, whose jangly indie pop hooks and warm nostalgic energy immediately won over the crowd. Known for their breezy melodies and charmingly offbeat sense of humour, the band even surprised punters by bringing out Teenage Dads for a cover of ‘Dancing In The Moonlight‘ mid set, setting the tone for the rest of the evening.
Next up was Phoebe Go, the solo project of Phoebe Lou. Her stripped back and heartfelt set provided a beautiful contrast to the evening’s indie rock heavy lineup. With delicate vocals and emotionally charged lyricism, Phoebe Go offered a calm before the storm, delivering songs that felt both deeply personal and universally relatable.
By the time Spacey Jane took the stage, the venue was buzzing with excitement. Despite the cold outside, the crowd was humming with warmth and energy, singing along to every word. The crowd was especially loud to one of their brand new tracks, ‘Whateverrrr‘, which is one of my personal favourites. The band’s shimmering guitar lines and emotionally raw lyrics connected effortlessly with the audience, proving once again that Spacey Jane are a band made for nights like these.

Spacey Jane’s newest album If That Makes Sense, which was released on 9th May is available on all streaming platforms now.
