Kick starting their first UK tour in over two years with sold out performance at Manchester’s Club Academy were Cambridge’s Sports Team. With support coming from Welly and Mary In The Junkyard, the night was a furious celebration of Sports Team’s greatest hits and for most, an introduction to their forthcoming third studio album, Boys These Days – out 25th February.
WELLY
Starting the show off early were Welly. The rising indie pop act has been building a reputation as the wittiest new band on the scene through their infectious genre bending singles being drip fed throughout the year. Their latest single ‘Big In The Suburbs’ dropped this week with their debut album of the same name now announced for release 21st March 2025.
MARY IN THE JUNKYARD
Having released their debut EP this old house to critical acclaim earlier this year, Mary in the Junkyard emerges as a breath of fresh air. Coming from a classical background, this experimental rock trio bring an innovative twist to the genre. For those who made sure to pop down early enough to catch their opening set would have been treated to a first listen of the band’s brand new single ‘this is my california’ which releases today (15/11)!
SPORTS TEAM
On to the main event and the atmosphere is positively buzzing. The amalgamation of first night of the tour excitement combined with the anticipation of it being their first show in quite a long time makes this show special from the off.
Sports Team proved the appetite is still very much at large and we can’t wait to see what 2025 brings for this enigmatic band! The tour continues throughout this month across the UK – full tour date info and remaining ticket availability can be found on the band’s website https://www.sportsteamband.com/
