THE DOLLYROTS LAMENT HOW SWEET AND SOUR LIFE CAN BE IN NEW SINGLE ‘ATTENTION SPAN’

Known for their brand of sugary pop punk, it’s been two years since California based duo The Dollyrots put out their last album – the excellent Night Owls. Bassist and lead vocalist Kelly Ogden, guitarist and vocalist Luis Cabezas and touring drummer Simon Hancock have since put out a handful of singles over the past couple of years including the original songs ‘Get On This Ride‘ and ‘Wrapped In Sunshine‘, and even a couple of decent covers, too with ‘Holding Out For A Hero‘ and ‘You Don’t Own Me‘.

A band that know what they’re good at and are great at what they do, their first single for 2026, ‘Attention Span‘ finds the band signalling the beginning of spring with a typically upbeat and infectious pop punk song. With razor sharp riffs and an early 2000’s-esque guitar line throughout the song is catchy as all hell with a chorus that’s sure to go down well when it’s played live – like all the best pop punk songs it balances the grit of real life with huge hooks and bubblegum vocals as Kelly laments how difficult modern life can be – “It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the intensity and rate of information thrown our way every day in this modern life. Important connections with each other and the earth seem to get lost in the shuffle. ‘Attention Span’ is a happy-sounding song about the confusion we feel right now,” says the singer.

Anyone over a certain age can certainly attest to this sentiment as life gets more cluttered the older you get and it’s harder to keep in touch with people you might have known for years – and there’s many aging pop punks out there these days who will be feeling this, myself included! The Dollyrots have essentially put what many are feeling a quarter of the way into the 21st Century into song-form, and it’s nice to know bands like The Dollyrots will always be around to provide an outlet for those who might feel lost. ‘Attention Span‘ is a big warm hug of a song for those who need it, when they need it.
