THE ‘LOVECHILD OF MUSIC AND BEER’ SON ESTRELLA GALICIA MICRO-FEST IS A ROARING SUCCESS

Son Estrella Galicia (SEG) is a music project that sets out to organise events that ‘go beyond concerts to truly unforgettable experiences’. SEG is the lovechild of music and beer, born in 2009 it is made up of the brands 4 key passions: Music, Non-Conformism and its positive impact, Gastronomy and last but not least, Beer. Specifically the culture of Galician beers, that have been brewed by the independently owned family company for four generations. To put it frankly, Son Estrella Galicia is made for those who love beer and music by those who love beer and music.
After the success of their biggest London event to date, Soundhood Hackney – an ambitious microfestival that took place in June, the prodigal son returned to Paper Dress Vintage on September 12th to deliver an evening of music, beer, food and workshops. Headlining the night was Coach Party; the Isle of White indie rock quartet who erupted onto the scene in 2023, with their debut album ‘Killjoy’, supported by the ethereal sound of The New Eves; labelled as one of the country’s most spellbinding bands. Paper Dress Vintage was certainly the place to be that night.
The evening featured a range of engaging workshops that showcased the Son Estrella Galicia project’s key values. A music workshop dissected the process of brewing hops and yeast – simplifying it into a soundboard in which each person could create a unique beat, run by the lovely Veronica Biondi from the beer culture department of Estrella Galicia. To promote SEG’s New Life Project, a clothing repair workshop was put on by Jenny Schwarz that spread the necessity of giving clothes a second life to reduce unnecessary waste. A lively atmosphere was brewing in Paper Dress Vintage and now was the perfect time to bring out the first act of the night.
The New Eves appeared on the stage like a mist in the morning, the violin strutting lead vocalist seemed not to sing but to howl as if she were a mother calling for her children (we, the audience) to return home. The sound was perplexingly comforting but with a mysterious violence that lay underneath, like a sheathed dagger. The unique lineup of instruments – flute, cello, violin, drums, guitar, bass – shouldn’t have worked together but they did and The New Eves made it look effortless; as if this was the norm from whatever mystical realm they hail from. The band bathed in the intimacy of the venue, transforming its confined walls into a romantic solace. The New Eves made me feel something and although I’m not quite sure what it was – I was inexplicably moved by it, their performance felt like art.
Now it was time for the main event, Coach Party burst onto the stage with a guitar populated symphony that can only be described as head bumping brilliance. Whilst The New Eves concentrated the venue into a warm embrace, Coach Party transformed it into a stadium with their energetic vocals that erupted with angst. The audience were merely puppets to Coach Party, the band controlled their sprawling limbs with the bang of a drum or twang of a guitar string. Their striking performance of ‘All I Wanna Do Is Hate’ is an anthem for the youth filled to the brim with animosity spurred on through disillusionment. Coach Party are the sons and daughters of Paramore and The Pixies however above all they are unapologetically their own. If you ever get the chance I strongly encourage you to check out Coach Party for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
Son Estrella Galicia’s microfestival at Paper Dress Vintage was a soaring success – the project has a very powerful and valuable tool that is worth boasting; they know their audience and tailor what they do to ensure satisfaction is reached from all points. So wait patiently for Son Estrella Galicia’s upcoming events as part of their global endeavours. You can catch them in Madrid and Barcelona later this year and in Berlin in 2025 – I promise it will be worth your while.
