The Lumineers delivered their biggest show yet in Glasgow on Friday, captivating the audience with an electrifying atmosphere from the moment they took the stage. The crowd, a sea of enthusiastic fans, radiated joy and warmth as the band played their beloved hits washed by a wave of nostalgia. Each note resonated deeply, igniting a collective sense of euphoria that made the night unforgettable. The connection between the band and their fans was undeniable, as they shared in the magic of the moment, celebrating the power of music to unite and uplift.
The tour follows the release of The Lumineers fifth album Automatic released in February, with the set list taking fans through a mix of their greatest hits with an equal measure of something new. Some of the nights highlights included the reappearance opening artist Micheal Marcagi, who was brought back by the group to deliver a captivating performance of ‘Charlie Boy’. During ‘Big Parade’, each member of the band had the opportunity to step up to the microphone. Wesley Schultz took the lead orchestrating the event, kicking off the song with enthusiasm and introducing each bandmate as they prepared to showcase their talents. This thoughtful approach allowed everyone to have their moment in the spotlight, ensuring that each member’s unique contribution was celebrated. Notably, Jermiah Fraites, who had previously shied away from singing in front of an audience, surprised everyone by taking his turn at the mic. This moment not only highlighted the supportive environment Wesley fostered but also marked a significant step for Jermiah, showcasing his growth and willingness to embrace the spotlight.
Whilst the show featured lots of highs, there was an unprecedented grief surrounding tonight’s performance. Wesley’s younger brother, Sam, had tragically passed away just a day before The Lumineers’ Glasgow performance, casting a shadow over the event. In a heartfelt tribute, the band chose to cover the Talking Heads’ song ‘This Must Be the Place’, a poignant choice as it was the very song Wesley had sung for his brother during his wedding. The emotional weight of the moment hit deep, leaving the audience in tears as they witnessed Wesley’s incredible strength in the face of such profound loss. Despite the heartache, he managed to deliver a powerful performance that will stay forever in those who shared it.
The penultimate moment of the evening was marked by an exquisite rendition of ‘Cleopatra’ that sent shivers of delight through the audience, captivating everyone present. As the concert reached its grand finale with the heartfelt anthem ‘Stubborn Love’, seasoned Lumineers key player Stelth Ulvang left the stage and joined the audience. The crowd left the venue singing and dancing, already reminiscing on such a perfect night.
