“THE VOICE OF THE NEXT GENERATION” | ‘GLASGOW’ NEW SINGLE BY PALE WAVES
SINGLE REVIEW | PALE WAVES – GLASGOW By Keira Knox
‘Glasgow’, the second song to be released from Pale Waves’ upcoming fourth album ‘Smitten’, has been revealed in conjunction with a brand-new video. A symphonic indie hit that’s guaranteed to put Pale Waves on the map. ‘Glasgow’ promises to transport you back to the 90s rock era by blending sounds reminiscent of The Cure and The Cranberries with a dash of contemporary indie sounds.
With its ethereal yet dynamic sound, ‘Glasgow’ is a track that gets better with each listen, satisfying the music industry’s longing for an alternative 90s vibe. Heather Baron-Gracie’s vocals on this song are phenomenal; she pulls off those insane caterwauls with ease. ‘Glasgow’ gives the impression that every member is concurrently utilising their individual strengths. Perhaps it’s a canonical fact that Manchester produces some of the best bands around, and Pale Waves have a bright future ahead of them, much like their predecessors.
Pale Waves are heading back to their roots for their fourth album, and I for one, am so excited about this. The chorus effects added to the guitar riffs in this track make it all the more anathematic. For me, it’s the song of the summer. This euphoric single is set to take the alternative music scene by storm, an anthem for the broken hearted. It’s such a bittersweet track; the upbeat and passionate nature of the instrumentals almost distract listeners from the poignant, heart-breaking meaning behind ‘Glasgow’s’ lyrics.
Vocally, this is Heather Baron-Gracie at her finest. Baron-Gracie, whose voice is unique and reminiscent of Dolores O’Riordan, is destined to be the voice of the next generation. When she delivers these moving lyrics, her voice is heavy with passion and real emotion, winning over the hearts of listeners who are casual admirers as well as ardent devotees. With each member showcasing their unique abilities, ‘Glasgow’ gives the band’s talents a global stage. Pale Waves are masters of their craft and their upcoming album ‘Smitten’ cannot come quick enough.
“Glasgow is my favourite from Smitten,” says Heather Baron-Gracie speaking about the track. “It’s about leaving someone because you know it’s no good for either of you anymore. It somehow breaks my heart but also makes me feel euphoric at the same time.”
