THIS FEELING TO BRING SURGING SCOTTISH BAND DICTATOR ACROSS THE BORDER
HEADING OUT ON THEIR FIRST FULL UK TOUR, LOTHIAN BASED DICTATOR WILL HIT LONDON’S WATER RATS THIS FRIDAY
In preparation of their first ever UK tour, which hits London’s Water Rats this Friday, Edinburgh based quartet Dictator released their first new music in nearly a year with the politically charged anthem Enough is Enough. The single, released August 30th is the bands new release since their Top 5 ranked (Scottish Album Chart) debut EP Rubik’s Cube out last year. Released via independent label Blackhall Records, the track is a politically charged anthem which supports the recent workers Strike movement across the UK.
“For as long as memory serves, corrupt politicians and powerful corporations have made decisions on behalf of the many to benefit the few. They have manipulated mainstream media to divide the majority and polarise the population. “However, over the last 12 months there has been a small glimmer of hope – the strike action movement. The power has always been with the people, and as we began to see some push back, we felt it right to vocalise our support in the only way we know how – through our music.”
DICTATOR on Enough is Enough
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
It’s fair to say that Dictator are a passionate band and they articulate this creatively with their music. Earlier tracks such as Anthem For a Doomed Youth and Conquistador explore similar socialist themes but it’s important to state that Dictator are not a political band. Their creativity goes well beyond challenging the literal Dictators of the world. As a songwriter, lead vocalist Micheal Campbell possess an incredible talent who carries a poetic quality to their lyrics. Lyrically their music is touchingly romantic at times. Moonlight and Hide and Seek are beautiful examples of a mature songwriter with the ability to transport their listener to a quivering vulnerability.
To describe Dictator as an indie or an alternative rock band wouldn’t do them justice. Taking inspiration from electro, hip hop, soul and of course indie rock, Dictators sound defines the phrase genre bending. Opening with a Stone Roses worthy drum fill introduction, new song Enough is Enough plays heavily to a rap style spoken word in it’s vocal delivery. Melodically, it is intensively tight. Everything works and flows so well together. I challenge anybody to listen to Enough is Enough and not come away singing ‘do do dooo do do doroo do…and repeat’
THE RUBIK’S CUBE TOUR
Their sound has developed and changed over the past few years but for the best. Think the Gorrilaz meets The Music meets Madness and you’re still only beginning to scratch the surface with these guys. Dictator do things their own way and aren’t afraid to push boundaries.
An electric live band who bring with them the best of Scottish banter, Dictator really do deliver a show to remember. This Friday (22.09), the band will make the trip down to London to perform the iconic Water Rats venue. With support coming from Walking Through Walls, Satis Astra and The Keely Collective, this is going to be the place to be on Friday.
