YOU ME AT SIX ANNOUNCE THEIR DISBANDMENT AND FINAL WORLD TOUR
“Time, something we never have enough of but always need more of”
BY BELLA PROUDFOOT
Originally formed in 2004, after two decades, several studio albums, over one billion streams, countless tours and numerous number one hits, Surrey born YOU ME AT SIX have announced their split. Taking to Instagram to post a two minute video, frontman Josh Franceschi reads an emotional statement announcing the news to their global fanbase.
Breaking up can be a complex decision for any band, especially those with such strong ties to both their audience and the music scene itself. You Me At Six have had an unrelentingly successful career over the last two decades. The release of over eight albums – seven
of which have achieved a place in the album chart top ten – world tours, nearly forty music videos and alas, an ever strong relationship with their dedicated fanbase. Their music has resonated with audiences all over the world, and they have undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the alternative rock scene.
Fans might be eager to know what the future holds for the members post-breakup. Some musicians embark on solo careers, while others join or form new bands. The diversity of these post-breakup paths often brings fresh perspectives and styles, allowing artists to explore different facets of their creativity. Though, after a twenty year stint in the music scene, the boys very well may choose to end their musical endeavours and relish in the legacy they’ve created.
Ultimately, the news of the You Me At Six split marks the end of an era in the rock music landscape. As fans process this development, it is essential to celebrate the band’s accomplishments and appreciate the impact they’ve had on the music world and their listeners. Whether it’s through their anthemic choruses, heartfelt lyrics, or energetic performances, You Me At Six will indeed leave behind a lasting legacy that will continue to resonate with both old and new fans forever, even if the band’s journey has come to an end.
Shedding light on this considerable loss, the band have announced their plans for a farewell tour to take place throughout 2025 before their final goodbye. So whether you’re a recent fan, drawn in by the evolved sound of their latest album Truth Decay (2023), or someone who used to scribble the lyrics of Take Off Your Colours (2009) all over your schoolbooks, now is the time to get your tickets, sing along and say goodbye.
“When we started YMAS (You Me At Six) we were kids. We only ever wanted longevity, to travel and to experience life as a group of friends. We feel like on the eve of our 20th anniversary as a band, now is a good time to call time. We’re in a fortunate position where our fans still want to see us live and come celebrate the life of this band. So that is what we will do for 2024 and 2025. We can’t wait to see our fans on the road.”
Josh Franceschi for Kerrang! Magazine
