Northern Exposure has never intended to be a profitable business. We pride ourselves on being a collaborative platform for new, upcoming and established artists from across the UK and beyond. From grassroot pub gigs to arena’s, our team are out there trying to capture the best of it. Whilst the opportunities are huge, the music industry is one of the most treasured yet undervalued industries in the country. The scene thrives on the passion of those who love music. Unfortunately, nobody can pay their bills with passion.

As an artist we know you are putting your hand in your pocket often, and this is the same for our many creatives. The opportunities are worth their weight in gold at times but if we want to sustain the quality of coverage then we need to value that somehow.

Why don’t you just charge for reviews?

We feel strongly against artists paying us for coverage. First of all, we want to remain an honest and enthusiastic platform for all music. We want people to trust our coverage and know our opinions are always honest. Prioritising paid for work can dilute the authenticity of our content, so first and foremost we will continue to allow our creatives to cover music that excites them.

Why don’t you charge a subscription to readers?

Because we feel music should be accessible for all. It doesn’t benefit our audience or the artists. It ultimately hides the great content that deserves to be out there for all!

So what do we plan to do about it?

We want to offer paid advertising on our website to generate enough revenue to cover our running costs. This website and all the other admin related costs are currently paid from our own pockets.

How will this work?

So we will be offering paid for adverts. This could be a banner on our homepage or square on an individual post. They can be used to advertise upcoming releases, tour dates and more, it’s up to you! All we ask is that they are relevant to the publication (no random click bait) and readers.

We hope our prices are fair and offer value for money. These reduced rates are intended for independent artists, promoters and venues without any major label investment, if you aren’t sure if this is you, then please reach out via the contact email.
