Antony Szmierek Interview | Leeds Festival 2023
Hailing from the (not so) mean streets of Manchester, Antony Szmierek blends elements of Indie, House and spoken word poetry to create something truly unique. Accompanied by his band The Breeze on his live dates, Antony’s relatable working class idioms set to irresistibly danceable beats really are a breath of fresh air.
Since first releasing music in 2021, things have been non stop for Antony, who is now a regular feature on BBC Radio 6 Music and just this week has been added to the BBC Radio 1 day time playlist. After a seemingly never ending string of summer festival appearances (Blue Dot, Truck, The Great Escape and the even Glastonbury) and a session at the legendary Maida Vale studios, just looking at his list of achievements in 2023 is enough to make you feel in need of a lie down.
We managed to grab Antony for a chat backstage at this year’s Leeds Festival, after his set on the BBC Introducing Stage. Check out the full interview below where Sophie found out what Antony does in his spare time, and if he really knows the words to Alud Lang Syne.
Antony Szmierek finishes off festival season in style this weekend at Live at Leeds in the City on Saturday 14th October 2023 before setting out on his headline tour in November, grab your tickets here.
And if that wasn’t enough, Antony Szmierek will also make an appearance on Later… with Jools Holland this Saturday14th of October.
