LIVE REVIEW | JAMES MARRIOTT w/ Calum Bowie, Esme Emerson | BARROWLAND BALLROOM, GLASGOW | 4th November 2025 by Mairi Lynch

Headlining a SOLD OUT Glasgow Barrowlands last night, James Marriott delivered a captivating and high-energy set that proved just how far he’s come since his first gig in the Scottish city at King Tuts back in 2023. With fans queuing from as early as 5am, the crowds bonded over their shared love of the singer with many draped in unique outfits – an extension of that devoted love.

Glasgow loves James, and tonight he made it clear the feeling is mutual.

Calum Bowie

Opening the night, Scottish indie-folk talent Calum Bowie instantly won over the crowd. His originals and covers were loved by fans, especially his medly of Chappell Roan’s ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ with ‘Pink Pony Club‘. If you’re into artists like Sam Fender and Lewis Capaldi, then keep Calum Bowie on your radar and check out his own headline show at the Barrowlands on the 5th of December.

Esme Emerson

Second support came from British-Chinese duo Esme Emerson, who brought their dreamy indie pop to the stage. With floaty vocals and standout drumming, they made the crowd fall in love with them; saying themselves how it was a dream come true to play this iconic venue.

James Marriott

As James stepped onto the stage, he was greeted by a vibrant sea of pride flags that instantly transformed the atmosphere. Overwhelmed with emotion during his performance of ‘Car Lights’, he couldn’t help but tear up a bit and when the crowd erupted into a loud chant of “No Scotland, No Party!” it only amplified the the sense of unity and excitement in the room. With a heavier, rock-leaning setlist, striking guitar solos, and a Scotland football top to match the crowd’s energy, Marriott looked like an artist born to be on stage.

The night felt like a celebration of new songs, proud tears, and even seen James accept Rock Sound’s Breakthrough Artist Award live on stage. A super-friendly crowd with an electrifying frontman in a city he called his favourite to play in – this was a monumental show for everybody who witnessed its glory.
