GET TOGETHERS SIXTH YEAR HITS KELHAM ISLAND TOMORROW!
Sheffield’s favourite Get Together Festival will make a grand return to its sixth year. The festival will transform the streets of Kelham Island and Neepsend into one large playground of multi-genre music, beer, and proper food. If you’ve never attended before, now is your chance to see why everyone is talking about it for months after the event ends.
Get Together Festival’s lineup is not only impressive but diverse enough to offer several bands from different genres, allowing you to enjoy a wide variety of music during the day. I’ll be making sure I catch the following below tomorrow:
Fat Dog who are absolute chaos in the best possible way. These south Londoners smash together punk, rave, electronica and unfiltered madness into something that feels completely untamed on stage. Expect howling vocals, throbbing bass, glitchy beats and a live show that’s more like a full-scale riot than a gig, sweat, stage invasions and pure manic energy. If you want one band that’ll leave you buzzing for days, this is it. Don’t miss them tomorrow.
Deadletter (from Yorkshire) have the perfect blend of punk rock with its distinctive angular sound coupled with some funky grooves, smoldering saxophone solos, and the deep voice of Zac Lawrence who can both sneer and mesmerise with ease. They’re energetic, wild, and just plain hard not to move to. It’s the kind of group that can easily make turn Sheffield into a proper party.
The Horrors are back with serious intent. Once the darlings of the post-punk revival, they’ve evolved into something darker, more expansive and cinematic. Expect swirling psychedelia, driving motorik rhythms, towering walls of sound and Faris Badwan’s unmistakable vocals cutting through it all. Live they’re hypnotic and intense, a proper big-stage experience squeezed into the warehouses of Kelham Island. If you loved their earlier raw energy or the more ambitious later records, tomorrow is going to hit hard.
These are just a few, the real joy of Get Together is stumbling across the bands you’ve never heard of. The curators are bang on the pulse, so trust them and go exploring.
The festival will also feature other artists, including Erol Alkan for late-night DJ sets, Lime Garden, Gwenno, Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip, Lynks and Lauren Auder, Stealing Sheep, Pale Blue Eyes, Curiosity Shop, Eaves Wilder, Lemonsuckr, Lily Moore, Pollyfromthedirt, Silver Gore, TV For Cats, Voka Gentle and plenty more across the full bill.
This year Get Together Festival will expand its venues, ensuring a better experience for everyone. Not only is it easier to move between venues now, but you won’t have any more heartbreaking conflicts that might happen due to overlapping schedules. Things kick off a little earlier than last year, beginning at 1pm on most stages, and night programming will continue to stretch deep into the night with club sessions at places such as Yellow Arch. A new chill zone called Curious Thoughts will open up with talks, art installations, a pop-up bookshop, cocktail bar, and a resident artist, Pete Fowler – the man behind the iconic visuals of the Super Furry Animals band. The Peddler food village and Kelham Island Brewery Beer Mile will also return this year.
This isn’t just another festival, it’s Sheffield doing what it does best, throwing the doors open, cranking the volume and letting proper new music take over the streets.
Get Together Festival is a fantastic event that supports the grassroots community while still inviting renowned artists to play. In a year when it is so hard to find events worth attending, Get Together Festival will once again prove itself to be unique.
Tickets cost between £49.50 – £55 depending on the tier you choose. You can get them exclusively on See Tickets, Gigantic, or DICE websites. Get Together is suitable for people 14 years old and above, and wristbands for access can be collected from 11am at the box office of The Old Workshop on Hicks Street. You’ll be able to enter anywhere on one wristband only; however, you should hurry if you want to catch the big artists. The event will not have a car park, but getting there by tram from Shalesmoor, train and walking, or just running from town if you are feeling adventurous are good options.
If you only go to one thing this summer, make it this. Proper local beer, cracking food, and the sheer buzz of discovering your new favourite band round every corner.
