IRREVOCABLY CATCHY | DUBLIN’S KHAKIKID RELEASES ‘DATE NITE’

SINGLE REVIEW | KHAKIKID – DATE NITE by Rachel Puk

Rating: 5 out of 5.

It’s undeniable that recently we’ve reminded over and over that Ireland is a cultural melting pot of song and artistry. In recent years we have seen the genre-spanning music oozing out of the island, reaching all over the world.

KhakiKid’s newest single ‘Date Nite’, is taking over our ears in the month we celebrate everything Irish in the lead up to Paddy’s Day

‘Date Nite’, is totally cheeky and irrevocably catchy. We’re instantly drawn in with a groovy smirking bassline and popping drums. KhakiKid captures us with his velvety vocals and spoken word. His cheeky lyrics that ooze confidence, layered on his high vibrational production, feels like sunshine creeping back onto the scene.

“Your to be ex-boyfriend is scared of any kid over six in a tracksuit

That’s a little more than slightly embarrassing

Ask my Ma, I’m the prettiest bad news”

Identity runs strong throughout this tune, KhakiKid’s smooth Dublin accent can’t help but add that extra layer of musicality to the earworm of a track. The Irish rap scene is proving to constantly expand in its many forms, like fellow Irish rappers Kneecap swarming the scene, KhakiKid has that knack for storytelling throughout his musicality.

Following the release of the short and sweet tune, KhakiKid released his four-track EP ‘Moanbag’ to see us through summer with his upbeat and alt-rap style.

Alongside the single dropped the playful music video. What looks like a laugh with friends has perfectly paired with the upbeat tune. KhakiKid, is one to keep an eye on. Watch as he continues to swarm the scene with his perky tunes where his infectious personality pours through. His tunes are itching to be played on a summer stage.
