NASHVILLE PUNK BAND SNÕÕPER MAKE THEIR UK DEBUT | INTERVIEW
‘HENRY ROLLINS APPROVED’ SNÕÕPER CHAT TO NORTHERN EXPOSURES PHIL MARSDEN
This November, Nashville’s Snõõper made their ‘British Invasion’ UK debut with a limited tour, including a packed out date at Manchester’s YES Basement.
Their debut album Super Snõõper was released earlier this year to critical acclaim via Jack White’s Third Man Records, and the band have built their reputation on their raucous live shows, thrilling spectacles which integrate a slew of different artistic mediums — music, video art, puppetry, assemblages and more — to create a unique experience for each performance.
Originally a two piece consisting of Blair (vocals) and Connor (lead guitar/songwriter), Snõõper quickly became a five piece when Happy (bass) Cam (drums) and Ian (guitar) joined creating the band they are now. Hailing from the iconic city of Nashville yet Snõõper fail to draw inspiration from the Country Music Mecca. Instead they pursue their unique take on a progressive punk sound.
Although in the genre of punk, Snõõper are a new breed. A fresh take on the mid 1970’s days of loutish mischievous behaviour, Snõõper bring a modern dynamic with a fast -blink and you’ll miss it – type of sound. Played at 45 rpm yet sounding more like 78 rpm, there’s some similarities here to the likes of The Clash and The Buzzcocks. Thriving on a DIY scene, Snõõper create and bring a unique sound to an audience ready to impress.
Backed by Henry Rollins who described the album as a “megadose of extremely cool and unique songs”, Snõõper have had praise from the likes of Pitchfork, NME, The Sunday Times, The FADER, Stereogum, The Line Of Best Fit, Kerrang! Magazine, CLASH, and have even been added to the BBC6 Music Playlist.
Now to add to that impressive resumé, Snõõper took the time to chat to Northern Exposure’s Phil Marsden before their Manchester headline earlier this month. Listen to the full interview via the link below.
