SINGLE REVIEW | ‘REMEMBER MY NAME’ – SAM FENDER By Keira Knox

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Following the releases of guitar-driven anthems such as ‘People Watching’ and ‘Arms Length’, Sam Fender reinvents his iconic sound with his latest single ‘Remember My Name’. A bold and invigorating track, with a heartfelt and mature flare that distinguishes the genuine affection Fender captures for his late Grandparents.

‘Remember My Name,’ is simply astounding; orchestral and brass accompaniments, serve to add to the poignancy of this lyrical exploration. ‘Remember My Name’ is a completely novel and distinctive level of Fender’s expertise. It is among his greatest songs; devoted listeners will find parallels with songs like ‘Good Company’ and ‘Dead Boys.’ Dare I say it, though, these tracks pale in comparison to this intensely poignant and profoundly moving experience.

This one is bound to elicit an emotional response; Fender captures the heart-breaking feeling of loss and grief so well. Writing from his late grandfather’s point of view, Fender has encapsulated the enduring spirit of love and hope.

‘Remember My Name’ features audacious musical and lyrical advances; for an artist known for his driving indie rock sound, Fender takes a turn that is certain to leave listeners amazed. Those emotional events and the recollections of departed loved ones are painfully relatable. Sam Fender’s ability to translate ideas into moving lyrics and give expression to feelings that are difficult to articulate is what makes his songs so incredibly relatable.

Fender describes his Grandparents as being ‘fiercely proud’ of their family, capturing their devastating love story and movingly illustrating the genuine meaning of loss. We have no doubt that this song would have made his grandparents ‘fiercely proud.’
