‘SHAKING FLOORBOARDS AND ELECTRIC ENERGY’ | FEEDER TAKEOVER MANCHESTER’S ALBERT HALL
THE ICONIC ROCK BAND ARE BACK IN THE GAME WITH NEW ALBUM ON THE HORIZON | BY BELLA PROUDFOOT
The floorboards of Manchester’s iconic Albert Hall were practically bouncing with the
crowd as Feeder played to a packed out crowd on Thursday night. The evening began
with upcoming, alternative three piece, GirlBand! The entirely female trio graced the stage with
a refreshing sound, heartfelt lyrics and undeniable talent that saw the crowd dancing
along to their infectious tunes.
Feeder emerged on stage to a screaming audience of adoring fans and took them on a
trip through their varied, extensive discography. Playing a selection of fan favourites and
picks from past and present including massive hits ‘Buck Rogers‘, ‘Just the Way I’m Feeling‘ and the ultimate crowd pleaser; ‘High‘. Grant Nicholas, lead vocalist and guitarist later introduces ‘Hey You‘, their newest and currently unreleased single from their upcoming album, Black/Red. Despite having never heard it, the crowd erupt into song, harmonising with the band and chanting the lyrics back to the stage before a notable standing ovation from the crowd in the upper tier of the venue. Nicholas goes on to introduce “the second single Feeder ever released” as the band begin to strum into ‘Tangerine’ from their debut album and watch as almost the entire standing audience explode into a mosh pit of electric energy.
After having played what seemed like an effortless show, injecting the crowd with ferocious velocity and captivating stage presence the band take a moment to reflect on their journey as a group over the years and reminisce on their first US tour, making jokes about the size of their first tour van, noting it couldn’t possibly be considered a bus, whilst taking time to thank the crowd for their support over the last decade.
The energy in the room was touching in a way one wouldn’t expect from such a bustling crowd, each and every person watched the show with admiration in their eyes and a genuine love that’s evidently reciprocated by each member on stage, Nicholas notably performed a song away from the infamously tall Albert Hall stage, instead choosing to play amid the audience barrier, offering hello’s and handshakes as he eventually found his way back to the stage.
I can truthfully say this show was unlike anything I’ve seen before within the walls of Albert Hall; Feeder’s performance was nothing short of mesmerising and the audience were completely transcended from start to finish. To put it lightly, grabbing yourself a ticket for this tour is an absolute necessity for any Feeder fan and certainly an experience you won’t forget.
