‘SPEAKING THE STATIC’ AUTOMOTION WELL ON THEIR WAY TO BRINGING NEW LIFE TO PUNK ROCK

SINGLE REVIEW By Keira Knox

London-based band, Automotion is deserving of all the praise that is
coming their way. Another expertly written song, ‘Speaking the Static’,
has been released as a lead-up to their upcoming EP Dissolve, which is set
to release on June 19. On that same day, the band will celebrate with an
EP launch event at London’s The Lexington.

The band consists of Jesse Hitchman on guitar and vocals, Lennon
Gallagher on guitar and vocals, Finton Eatwell-Hurst on bass, and Otis
Eatwell-Hurst on drums; they have become a constant presence in the
South London live scene, particularly at The Windmill in Brixton. With their
extensive range of live performances, they have honed their skill to the
point of mastery, and ‘Speaking The Static’ perfectly encapsulates what
the band are about.

The song highlights Automotion’s melodic side with its powerful guitar riffs
and soft vocals. Though it is considerably quieter and more sombre than
their earlier songs, the voices of Jesse Hitchman and Lennon Gallagher are
what really set this song apart. With a tone and musical manner
reminiscent of early Nirvana songs, Automotion are well on their way to
bringing punk music back to life.

You can expect everything from an Automotion track in ‘Speaking The
Static’
; alternating between quieter passages and intense distorted
riffs that grab the listener’s attention. The expectations for their
impending EP release have been greatly elevated by this release. The
result of the band’s unwavering work ethic combined with their gifted
songwriting and production abilities is ‘Speaking The Static’.

As they establish themselves as a major player in the indie music scene,
Automotion’s new EP Dissolve looks to be a big release. I have no doubt
that Automotion will achieve wonderful things in the future, and I am
eagerly awaiting the release of their EP. For fans of Nirvana, Pastel,
Radiohead, and The Rah’s – ‘Speaking The Static’ is for you.
