THE BLINDERS MAKE A DETONATING RETURN WITH ‘BRAKELIGHTS’
By Holly Pimlott
After seemingly lurking within the shadows of fame since their sophomore album Fantasies Of A Stay At Home Psychopath (2020) and their dynamic 2-part EP Electric Kool Aid (2022) – the detonating 4-piece have torn their way back into the ever-moving music scene with as much drama and rouse as possible.
Explosive is the first word that comes to mind on the initial thought of Brakelights. Its convulsive, hard-hitting guitar tones will pound through your speakers harmoniously with Haywood’s intoxicating vocals and lyricism – in typical style and high-fashion of the band. The track almost feels like a confrontation: the dominance and strength of the instrumental acts as a backbone to support the weaponry that is Haywood’s voice – verses spoken almost as frustrated lectures contrasting with the chilling screams of the choruses, perfectly push the power and narrative of the song.
Fans of the band will have already heard Brakelights and other new songs such as Waterfalls, Always and Ceremony live at some point this year, as they have been taken for their first few spins in front of hungry fans. Whether that be at their extremely intimate, secret set at the Castle Hotel in Manchester as Beholder, or their two headline sets in London (Dublin Castle) and Manchester (White Hotel) in support of their new single – the 4-piece present their implosive yet fresh lineup of Thomas Haywood, Charlie McGough, Thomas Castrey, Johnny James and Jordan Bell to fans in usual fiery form.
