Toronto garage punks Wine Lips bring their extensive Hungry For A Knuckle Sandwich tour to the UK and we joined then at Manchester’s Deaf Institute for an evening of super fast paced carnage.
Riding high off the back of their fourth album, 2024’s Super Mega Ultra takes psych fuzz punk to another level following 2022’s high octane adrenaline fueled Mushroom Death Sex Bummer Party. Wine Lips blasted through an intense set featuring Derailer, Eyes, Lemon Party and In the Clear. The Deaf Institute’s whole floor space becoming one big circle pit of bouncing bodies.
Rounding up the Canadian line up, Toronto’s Gloin were on support duties. Their second album All of your anger is actually shame (and i bet that makes you angry) was long listed for the Polaris Music Prize, Canada’s version of the Mercury Prize. Making it feel more like a noise punk double bill rather than a support slot. For those first hearing Gloin on this Wine Lips tour, we’d imagine you’ll be going home with a new favourite band.
The second half of the Hungry For A Knuckle Sandwich tour begins on Monday 13th October at London’s legendary Moth Club before heading out to Portsmouth, Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham and Bristol.
