The White Hotel has around 5 months left of being one of Manchester’s finest DIY venues. Brooklyn originators A Place To Bury Strangers have come to leave their explosive mark of supersonic fuzz, retina-burning strobes and fog in the Salford industrial estate. They’re easily one of the loudest bands around.
APTBS have built an all immersive live show you need to witness in person to experience, you just have to be there. Beginning in 2002, each time they come around APTBS manage to take it up a notch further with extreme sound, more crazy lighting and new contraptions from singer Oliver Ackerman’s own noise pedal brand Death By Audio. A display of these is featured on their merch desk, with limited editions available to buy.
From the off you get strobes, overhead projector spears of hot light cutting through smoke and in the midst of ear splitting feedback guitars and amps are thrown in the air, destroyed, played and destroyed again. (Gear nerds don’t be annoyed, all guitars get meticulously pieced back together before the next show for added fucked up tone before the next show). Instruments and a flight case of pedals and synths are taken into the crowd, where the band plays surrounded by the audience and a wall of noise.
Latest album, Rare and Deadly released in April 2026, follows 2024’s Synthesizer. The album cover doubles as a DIY synth kit, and one was built and on display as part of the band’s stage set up.  A Place To Bury Strangers becomes the ultimate show for gear nerds and anyone looking to be eaten up by light and sound.
Support comes from Berlin three piece Die Anstalt. A sonic synth blast, which had singer Carmen Redeker climbing on speakers all over the venue and hanging off the White Hotel’s iconic cross.
