As part of Rough Trade’s 50th birthday celebrations, a stacked line-up of Viagra Boys, SPRINTS and Opus Kink took to Liverpool’s Olympia for a night of sticky raucous energy.
The Swedish Shrimptech Enterprises’ punk rock losers’ 4th album viagraboys was crowned Rough Trade’s Album of the Year for 2025, so a sold-out August Bank Holiday weekend show made for the perfect celebration.
Bringing the finest career spanning setlist featuring best album tracks ‘Man Made of Meat’, ‘Pyramid of Health’, ‘Waterboy’, ‘Bog Body’, and ‘Uno ii’ from viagr aboys. ‘Sports’, ‘Amphetanarchy’, ‘SlowLearner’ and ‘Worms’ from 2018’s Street Worms. ‘Punk Rock Loser’, ‘Troglodyte’ and ‘Ain’t No Thief’ from 2022’s Cave World. Plus EP favourites ‘Lick the Bag’ and ‘ResearchChemicals’ had the whole floor area of the Olympia turn into a giant swirling pit of bodies and a single umbrella for the whole set.
Support came from Dublin punk band SPRINTS whose 2025 2nd album All That Is Overalso featured on Rough Trade’s Albums of the Year list. Singer Karla Chubb had the crowd in the palm of her hand, prowling around the vast main floor of the Olympia.
To round up two bands with phenomenal 2025 LPs, openers Opus Kink showed off the best of 2026 so far. With an already incredibly loyal fan base and known for their boisterous live shows, Opus Kink, whose glorious 2026 debut album, The Sweet Goodbyeshould easily feature on best album lists this year.
