SINGLE REVIEW | BOLD LOVE – FEEL YOU CLOSE by Morgan Hermiston

Grief is a concept we will all experience in some capacity, but how we deal with it can be quite divisive. Dublin’s BOLD LOVE know all about this, and have encapsulated their own experiences beautifully with latest single ‘Feel You Close‘. The track, just over three minutes in duration, details different ways that the departed remain with us, though they are no longer physically here.

Intimacy is incorporated into ‘Feel You Close‘ through the intricate and meticulous merging of sincere songwriting and a shared experience. Lyrically, BOLD LOVE discuss the feelings of being told someone has died, and life afterwards. Upon being given the news, penmanship poignantly describes how, “sorrow suffocated the room“. The group also talk of how it feels to have inherited some of that person’s mannerisms, whether that be talking like them or adopting their attributes, “when I talk, you’re talking too“.

It is impossible not to notice the simple, yet amazingly addictive foundation that ‘Feel You Close‘ is built upon. Basslines from Dan Aherne and drumming by Anton Shovlin provide this basis. Adding to the simplistic yet stellar sound is guitar work from lead guitarist Adam Curtis and Jack Cody, with riffs incrementally adding to the atmospheric feel. The latter also vibrantly vocalises the track’s sentiments alongside Megan Nic Ruairí and Cian Ó’Maonlaí.

This track, among some of the band’s others are produced by Richie Kennedy, whose expertise can be found in work by the likes of The Libertines, Suede, and Celeste. Collaborating with people like Kennedy has allowed them to draw from already successful acts, while cultivating and developing a dynamically distinct sound for themselves. BOLD LOVE is formed by six members, each with individual input that shines through.

Feel You Close‘ joins recent release ‘I’m Home’ as part of an upcoming body of work set for release in the Autumn. Not only does this most recent tune add to the anticipation of awaiting more material from BOLD LOVE, but it has helped to build admiration and an ever-growing audience for their major festival performances. In the coming months, BOLD LOVE will appear at London’s All Points East, Glasgow’s Tenement Trail, and Live at Leeds.

With this latest addition to their discography, BOLD LOVE have created an ethereal escapade that lifts and highlights an emotion-filled concept. ‘Feel You Close‘ perfectly portrays how we become the people we love, and let their memory live on through us in one way or another.
