GLASGOW METALHEADS DOPPELGÄNGER RETURN WITH SECOND SINGLE ‘RATTUS’
SINGLE REVIEW | DOPPELGÄNGER – RATTUS by Olivia McCallum
Rising from the deep dark depths of the Scottish metal and hardcore scene, Glasgow based Doppelgänger are escaping a rat army and speeding down a motorway near you.
“Rattus” is everything you could want and more as a second release from Doppelgänger. It’s yet another effortless fusion of thrash with more hardcore and black metal genres. It’s heavy, it’s loud and it’s powerful. Doppelgänger never take themselves too seriously, which only makes people adore them more. It’s evident that they love what they’re doing and what they’re making.
The song packs a punch throughout its entirety. Immediately you can hear the influence of bands like Pest Control and Municipal Waste. While still being fast-paced and heavy, occasionally the song took a moment to slow down, but that doesn’t mean they let you take a break. It was just enough to let you catch your breath and beg for more, every chorus is just as powerful and booming as every verse.

The band themselves are full of energy as reflected in their music. Guitarist and vocalist, Brandon Walker especially is always bounding about the stage. The entire performance only becomes all the more impressive when you see him play whilst kicking higher than the head height of any member of the band. Drummer Stephen Smith is also out of this world and the driving rhythm is definitely a stand-out on this new track. Aiden McHugh, the lead guitarist, creates these incredible thrash-infused riffs that are perfectly complimented by the rumbling of Chloe Dow‘s thunderous bass and Brandon’s aggressive rhythm guitar.
Passion runs through the veins of all of their projects and there is definitely a sense of love for the local scene that hums throughout all they do. The band got their start playing at the DIY event “Riffs And Ramps”, which took place in the Summer of 2024 in Glasgow’s very own Arches DIY Skatepark. They were back by popular demand for round two in 2025, playing to an estimated over 500 people. Other than The Arches DIY, they have played countless DIY and local venues across Scotland, they made their England debut in May 2025 and have many more shows planned for across the border.
“Rattus” is available to stream on all your streaming services alongside their first single, “I Killed a Family of 7 in a Red Ford Focus (Allegedly)”. Be sure to also check out their collaborative EP with Glasgow’s very own thrash punks, Fatal Collision, aptly named “FATALGÄNGER“, which is available on bandcamp.
For fans of Municipal Waste, Pest Control and Doomsday, DO NOT MISS DOPPELGÄNGER!!!!!!
