SINGLE REVIEW | PEDALO – HATE ME by Charlotte Cairnie

Glasgows very own Pedalo have now released their new single ‘Hate Me’ on April 2nd 2026. This song fits comfortably within the dream pop genre, this new release leans into the same hazy, atmospheric aesthetic which we can resonate with other artists such as Beach House and Wolf Alice.

A song that sparks nostalgia, audiences can really pull their own life experiences when listening to it. Delving deep into a troubled romance and letting someone treat you a certain way just to keep them around which can resonate with a large audience. We get this same vibe from the band’s previous release Picture It Backwards.

‘Hate Me’ has warm tone to it, the sound as well as the story being told is gentle with a subtle but effective build. The drums and guitars especially are minimal which gives the song a steady foundation without overpowering the soft vocals which gives a nice groove to it. This track can be listened to when you are in your feels through your headphones on a sad night, or even played aloud through speakers having a dance in your bedroom. This kind of versatile sound is so unique and will be appreciated by audiences.

The structure of this song feels really smooth and easy to follow. Everything flows nicely from one section to the next. It doesn’t go for big standout moments or dramatic shifts, but instead keeps a steady mood throughout, which actually works really well for that immersive, dreamy feel. When it comes to production, the mix is clean and nicely balanced with a strong focus on atmosphere. Everything sits comfortably together, the mids feel warm and full, and the top end stays soft without anything sounding too sharp. It all comes together in a way that feels really cohesive, with just the right mix of polish and that slightly hazy, ambient texture you’d expect from this style of music. ‘Hate Me‘ is another fantastic addition to their discography which will soon be in the playlists of everyone that has every yearned for their youth and gone through transitions in their life.

The Scottish band is formed by singers Charlotte Stuart and Callum Geddes then we have drummer Beth Mackenzie, bassist Nick Eadie and guitarist Calum Steel. These 5 individuals work hard to create such a unique sound together which comes across as so natural and a pleasure to listen to.

Their previous gigs in venues such as Glasgow’s 1990, McChuills and Sneaky Pete’s have been described as atmospheric and vibrant. The team really know how to put on a show and Glasgow is ready for them to come and make a dent in the music scene when Pedalo play their upcoming live show at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut on the 13th of June 2026 to celebrate the launch of the fantastic new EP. This gig would be a sore one to miss. You can find tickets here.
