Q&A w/ ISSAC RYAN BROWN by Anne Kelly

From his early days on Disney Channel to his evolution into a multifaceted artist, Issac Ryan Brown has always known how to command a stage. Now, he’s trading the sitcom sets for the studio, leaning into a mature, soulful sound that bridges the gap between old-school R&B and modern pop energy.

With his latest single ‘Lipstick‘ making waves, we sat down with Issac to discuss the inspiration behind the lyrics, his run-ins with London security, and why he’s ready to hop in a time machine back to the 80’s.

Your brand new single‘Lipstick’ is out now, what can you tell us about it?
“Lipstick, to me has always kinda been about possession. If you’re mine say it wit yo chest because if I’m yours I’ll never rub your lipstick off.”

The statement “leave their mark like a logo” is a really bold and playful image, was there a particular moment or experience that inspired the concept of the track?
“DEFINITELY based on a real moment. An ex-girlfriend of mine used to try to leave her… mark on me whenever I would go out.”

Sonically, who or what inspired the direction of this latest release? What had you been listening to around writing this one?
“I wouldn’t say that one particular artist or one particular moment inspired the track. But around the time I made this record I was listening to a lot of Bruno Mars, Lucky Daye and Blackstreet.”

You have a massive online following. How do you balance the constant demands of a social media presence with your real life? Any tips for your fans on staying grounded?
“I would say just finding a balance between how much I want to connect with people who care about me and my journe, and taking time that I owe to myself. Whether that’s playing the game or getting a massage.”

Since we are a UK-based publication, do you have any special memories from your time recording here? And more importantly, have you developed a taste for any British snacks yet?
“So many special memories! I remember one night I was filming content in front of the London Eye (without permission…) and right before the guard was about to tell us to leave, it started raining. As far as snacks go… I still haven’t found a UK snack that’s for me I fear, any recommendations?”

Do you have any plans to return for a full UK tour or live shows soon?
“I definitely have plans to comeback to the UK soon, and I look forward to any and all live opportunities that I have coming up, but no set plans for a tour at the moment.”

Finally, if you could go back to any musical era for one night, what one are you picking?
“If I could go back to any musical era I would go back to like the 1980’s. I would’ve loved to see MJ on tour, and tickets were only like 35$.”
