New York art punk band Bodega started their UK tour in Manchester’s Yes just days after the release of their latest (or alter ego Nodega‘s debut) EP, Rot in Helvetica came out. We’re told during the show that for context all of New York’s street signs are in the Helvetica font.
Bodega appeared in 2018 with album debut Endless Scroll including breakthrough singles Jack in Titanic and How Did This Happen. In 2022 they put out an EP, Statuette on the Console of one song recorded in 9 different languages. 6 years on, the band are still keeping it relevant with their own brand of cynical social commentary centred around modern consumerism.
Opening with a cover of Black Sabbath‘s Paranoid as a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne‘s passing the day before the show. Their bassist also displayed a Palestinian flag on his bass with a Keffiyeh draped over his amp. Singer Ben Hozie called out Spotify for having a hand in killing children in Gaza from very recent news being that their CEO Daniel Ek has invested millions in an AI drone weapons company.
Support came from rising Melbourne based post punk band Radio Free Alice
