INTERVIEW | JASMIN JET by Anne Kelly

From the local pub to the pages of Rolling Stone, Falkirk’s Jasmin Jet is redefining what it means to be a “breakout artist” in the UK scene. Described as a “soulful powerhouse,” Jet blends a sassy, nostalgic edge with modern pop sensibilities which have caught the eye of the industry’s heavyweights.

It has been a whirlwind year for Jasmin, most notably punctuated by her massive victory in the Greene King Untapped national competition. Out of hundreds of grassroots acts, she blew away a judging panel featuring Sam Ryder and McFly’s Danny Jones to take home the title. The life changing win has already seen her support Ryder on tour and recording at the legendary Metropolis Studios.

But the momentum isn’t slowing down, and her place on the “2026 Ones to Watch” list, and teasing new music is only adding to the hype. Then in just one weeks time, the Scottish starlet will take to the stage of Glasgow’s Classic Grand for the second edition of Northern Exposure Live.

First of all, huge congratulations in your Greene King untapped talent win last year? How has life been for you since that moment?

Thank you so much. Honestly, it was completely unexpected, which made it even more special. Since then, I’ve definitely felt more eyes from the industry on what I’m doing, more gigs coming through, and just a bigger sense of belief in myself. One of the biggest pinch-me moments was getting to support Sam Ryder at his sold-out show — that came directly after the win and was such an incredible experience. It’s just been really gratifying and encouraging.

For those who haven’t have the pleasure of getting to know you, can you tell us a bit about Jasmin Jet?

I’ve been involved in music my whole life really. I started in musical theatre when I was eight, and then around eight years ago I decided I wanted to be a musician properly. Since then, I’ve been gigging and writing constantly — I’ve done over a thousand shows in that time. Everything in my life has revolved around music, including getting a first-class degree in it. I’ve always gravitated towards creating, performing and singing — it’s just who I am.

Going back to that win, what was the highlight of the whole experience? Before, during and opportunities since?

The whole thing was such a whirlwind. Even being involved felt surreal, and then afterwards things really started to snowball. Being featured in Rolling Stone was a massive moment for me, and getting the chance to go to Metropolis Studios was unbelievable — just being in a space with that much history was so inspiring. It felt like a real turning point where I thought, okay, this is actually happening.

A little birdie told me that you have a brand new single coming out very soon. What can you tell us about it?

Yes! This project leans more into pop, with touches of soul and funk, but each song has its own vibe. This first single is dramatic and fun, and it’s all about regaining power over a situation that once really hurt you — almost saying, “Yeah, maybe I am that… so what?” It feels like the perfect first chapter for me. I’ve put off releasing music for a long time because nothing ever felt right, but this does. It’s personal, but also really relatable, and even from a few teasers I’ve had people message me saying it made them feel better about themselves, which means everything.

In terms of your songwriting process, how do you think you have evolved since you first started making music.

It’s funny because I still perform songs I wrote when I was around 12 or 13. Back then, I’d write a song and that was it — done. Now, I write and then edit, which has its pros and cons. I can be a bit of a perfectionist and get stuck over-analysing, something I’m trying to move away from. But as I’ve grown up, songwriting has helped me understand myself and the world better. Life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, and I process everything through songs.

Let’s talk about the live show. What can we expect from your performance at Classic Grand later this month?

I love switching things up, so every live show feels a little different. Sometimes it’s stripped back and intimate, other times it’s playful and upbeat. For Classic Grand, I’ll be performing alongside my good friend and producer James Allen — and it definitely won’t be stripped back. There’ll be brand-new songs people haven’t heard live or on my socials yet, alongside a few familiar moments too.

Have you ever had a disaster moment on stage? If so, how did you recover and what lessons did you take from it?

Oh yeah, big time. At the Greene King final, the track we were meant to play didn’t start, so me and my guitarist had about ten seconds of mind-to-mind communication on stage before just going for it. At the time I thought I’d completely messed it up, but over the years I’ve learned you just have to keep performing the way you’ve practiced and adapt in the moment.

Do you have any pre-show rituals you try to stick to?

Yeah, I’m big on vocal care. I always do my warm-ups, drink loads of fruit and herbal tea, and just make sure everything feels good vocally. Then right before I go on, I get this massive rush of energy and have a little hype moment to myself — it’s slightly unhinged, but it works.

In addition to the untapped win, you have also been named as ‘One To Watch’ in 2026. Who else in Scotland would you name as ones to watch?

There’s so much talent in Scotland right now. Holly J and Katie Nicol are both incredible artists I really rate, and I’d also shout out James Allen as a producer — he’s genuinely one of the best and is doing amazing things.

Finally, you could only record with one artist for the rest of your life, who would you pick and why?

I’d have to go with Tame Impala. I feel like he would really understand the creative evolution I want to have across my career and would constantly push things forward in a really exciting way.

Something tells us that Jasmin Jet is set to be Scotland’s next biggest thing and if you want to jump on the bandwagon first then make sure to get down to Glasgow’s Classic Grand on Friday 13th February.
