Back in June, I picked three bands to plan your Edinburgh Psych Fest day around. On 6th September 2026 I got to two of them, both at La Belle Angele, camera in hand.
Bleech 9:3 were the one I’d been waiting on. I bought the merch off the back of their self-titled EP before I’d ever seen them in a room, because Baz Quinlan and Sam Duffy write so honestly about addiction and recovery. Buying the t-shirt before the gig is a gamble. You’re trusting the record.
Then Baz jumped into the crowd, and Sam Duffy shot the crowd with his guitar. I was shooting the crowd too, just with less style.
Confession time. I shot two other bands that day, and both sets were corrupted, so this is what survived. You’ll also notice there are no drummer shots. Between the venue and the lens I had, I couldn’t get to them, and that’s on me.
National Playboys were the Edinburgh shout. A post-punk five-piece with a gothic edge; if you’re anywhere near the scene here, you’ve heard people raving about them. The ravers were right. They were screaming into each other’s faces, and the chemistry between them was absolutely class; they produced a lively, energetic set.
Two bands, one room, one long Sunday. Galleries below.
National Playboys bring their UK tour home to Sneaky Pete’s on 18th December 2026, and their new single ‘Drowning’ is out now.
Bleech 9:3 play the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh on 29th April 2027, the night after SWG3 in Glasgow, on their Bleed Tour. Tickets go on general sale at 10 am on Friday 9th October, and their debut album BLEED is up for pre-order now. PRE-ORDER LINK – TICKETS LINK
Edinburgh Psych Fest returns on Sunday 5th September 2027. Early bird tickets have sold out, and second-tier tickets are on sale now at edinburghpsychfest.com.
