QUICK FIRE! SAN VITO RYDER INTERVIEW

Floating on the momentum of 2023’s acclaimed releases ‘I AM THE KING‘ and ‘TREE-LILY‘, San Vito Ryder has now revealed his latest effort ‘CRYSTAL CRUELLA‘. Preparing for the release of his debut EP ‘Taste My Charm’ on March 15th, we sent a San Vito himself some quick fire questions! Make of this what you will and prepare to enjoy the dark ride…

Who is San Vito? I’m a musician now

How would you describe your music in three words? Black Drip Blues

When did you first start playing music? When I wanted to spread the word – about 17.

Who inspires you? Did you know that Nick Cave meditates these days? I never knew. If only he said.

Tell us about Taste My Charm – your debut EP?Taste my charm was recorded and mixed by Luke (Oldfield). He was a great fit as i love his work with The Wytches. He wanted to do things very old fashioned which put me in line really. Having to perform on tape with a band I didn’t know a couple of weeks beforehand was beautifully delicate madness.

Does the EP reflect something personal for you or do you write fictitiously? Having my charm tasted is very personal to me

.How long has this been in the making? Some of these songs were written over lockdown in this speakeasy gothic type pole dancing bar that wasn’t in use. It all went from there really

What makes your live performances different from the recorded music? There’s a lot of visuals going on. Some ugly and some beautiful. I’m also theming my shows at the moment. The Camden show is on Good Friday… I’ll let you imagine what I have planned.

First memory of music? Listening to T Rex in the car as a kid

First album you bought? Babyshambles – Shotter’s Nation

First gig? My cousin’s violin school performance. Pretty rock n roll

If you could claim one song for your own – what would it be? Brown noise sounds pretty cool, it helps me sleep

San Vito Ryder will be joined by The Churchbell Silencers on Good Friday (29th March) at Camden’s The Black Heart to celebrate the EP release in true San Vito fashion.
