SINGLE REVIEW | PAPARAZZI – SUPERSTITIONS FOR FOOLS by Olivia McCallum

The red carpet is rolled out and the cameras are flashing as the glamorous Glasgow band Paparazzi take to a dance floor near you with their newest single “Superstitions For Fools”.

Released on the 27th of March, the track is yet another incredible single from the rising stars of synth pop Paparazzi. The song immediately envelopes you in the warm nostalgia of old school Scottish synth rock. The song is atmospheric throughout its entirety. The chorus is extremely catchy it’s not hard to imagine it being played to a sea of fans at a music festival.

Hailing from Inverclyde, the five-piece comprises of lead singer Seanpaul Fabiani, drummer/percussionist Adrian Woodside, bassist Jude McNelis and the two guitarists Gabriel McNelis and Sean Green, who also plays the synthesiser.

Seanpaul’s vocals and lyrics guide you through the track, perfectly encapsulating the intense paranoia of someone using superstitions and rituals to make it through their day.

Sean and Gabriel’s glittering synths and jangly guitars are extremely reminiscent of the sound of their New Wave ancestors, Simple Minds and Aztec Camera. The song also has traces of newer pop artists such as DJO scattered throughout, perfectly merging the world’s of 80s synth rock and the pop music of our generation.

The percussion and bass, provided by Adrian and Jude, is truly what makes the track. The combination is groovy, bouncy and punchy which makes it utterly impossible not to dance to (or atleast clap along when the song demands it).

“Superstitions For Fools” is the perfect follow up single to its predecessor, the band’s debut track “Glam Shot”, an equally danceable synth pop masterpiece.

For fans of Hard-fi, Simple Minds and Aztec Camera, the 80s called… they said get spinning the new Paparazzi single!!!
