ABBIE GORDON CAN’T IGNORE INEVITABILITY IN NEW SINGLE ‘WET RAIN’
Abbie Gordon (Hope Simmers/Northern Exposure)
SINGLE REVIEW | ABBIE GORDON – WET RAIN by Morgan Hermiston
Scottish singer-songwriter Abbie Gordon has released third single, ‘Wet Rain‘. Following on from two already very well received, ‘Bottlemouth‘ and ‘Out of Wine‘, Abbie is a musical force to be reckoned with. Her debut single, ‘Out of Wine‘ has already gathered 36k Spotify streams at the time of this new release, and it was only released in February.
This third release from Abbie Gordon discusses the feeling of being with someone you can imagine spending your life with. “We’re inevitable as wet rain” is a beautifully simplistic lyric that vocalises this. From tongue-in-cheek lyrics like that of Elizabeth Nichols and Sabrina Carpenter, to the merging of melodies reminiscent of Duffy’s ‘Mercy‘, and Chappell Roan’s ‘Good Luck, Babe‘, ‘Wet Rain‘ is a track full of powerful pop presence.

‘Wet Rain‘ has immaculate production, and I love that you can hear absolutely everything Abbie is singing. Her divine, distinctive vocals also aid in this. Simplicity in the song not only provides a sense of serenity, but also a tantalising timelessness which makes it memorable.
‘Wet Rain‘ has been one of those songs where I’ve had a lot to say about it, but have struggled to find wording to do it justice. It’s a song you have to listen to for yourself, to fully grasp anything I’ve wrote about in this review. I think it’s amazing to see up-and-coming musicians like Abbie Gordon finding a musical methodology that highlights the very best of their abilities. It would be surprising if she isn’t a household name, at least in Scotland, in the next few years.
You can catch ‘Wet Rain’, and Abbie Gordon’s other memorable melodies at various shows this year. She was also recently added to TRNSMT’s BBC Introducing Stage. Abbie is also supporting Avery Cochrane in London on July 15th.
