Femi Koleoso on Ezra Collective’s BRIT Award win and speech. Listen to the full chat here.
The festival highlights include a captivating discussion with Femi Koleoso, drummer of Ezra Collective, reflecting on their monumental BRIT Award win for Group of the Year. Femi shares the surreal experience of their victory, recounting how the moment caught them off guard:
Femi Koleoso: “That was just crazy. Someone told us that if you’re about to win a Brit Award, all the cameras come to your table to be ready to film you. So when they said, ‘and now for Group of the Year’, and there were no cameras, we were like, ‘alright’. So we were kind of like, just be humble in defeat, because you don’t want to be that person that looks vexed when they say someone else’s name. And then they read out the names… And then when they said Ezra Collective, I think we were stunned.”
Femi goes on to share the heartfelt inspiration behind his speech at the BRITs:
Femi: I mean, when we were walking up to accept the BRIT, I didn’t have a speech prepared or anything, but I was just like, ‘just tell the truth, tell the truth, tell the truth’. Moving to a lighter yet equally memorable moment from the festival, Nick Grimshaw sits down with Jamz Supernova to talk about the electrifying live performance of Fat Dog. The band’s reinterpretation of Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction with Jessica Winter left a lasting impression:
Nick Grimshaw: Then we had, of course, Fat Dog performing, who were just absolutely phenomenal, insane to see live.
Jamz Supernova: Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction has been making the rounds! I’ve heard every version of it. But what about their version of it with Jessica Winter? Incredible.
The conversation takes an amusing turn as Nick recalls his 81-year-old mum’s reaction to the set:
Nick: My mother, who’s 81, came. It was quite something watching Fat Dog with my 81-year-old mother do Benny Benassi. Her tooth fell out!
