THE SNUTS REVIVE JOY WITH NEW SINGLE ‘DEFIBRILLATOR’ AND 2026 TOUR

After some time away to focus on their personal lives’, Scottish band, The Snuts, are back with some new tunes for their upcoming album, Joy In Short Moments, to help you appreciate the little things in life.
Their most recent release – and third single for the album – ‘Defibrillator‘, is a catchy and optimistic track that focuses on being present and making the effort to enjoy time with loved ones. With a shorter runtime of 2:41, the song really does feel like a burst of joy. Immediately upon listening, you’re greeted with a sweet sounding melody and twinkly bells, giving the song that ‘feel-good summer’ vibe I’ve been craving. The drums sit at a consistent pulse throughout most of the song, sort of like the sound of a heartbeat. This made the listening experience very grounding – like my heart had synced up with it – reinforcing the whole idea of taking time to appreciate ‘Joy In Short Moments’.
On the development of the new single, frontman, Jack Cochrane recalls:
“I wanted to write a track that detailed a conscious decision to live and love more. To take life less seriously and dilute ego as often as possible. ‘Defibrillator’ is a song that celebrates the collective and trivialises the sludgy worries of being alive.”
‘Defibrillator’ does exactly that. The song takes you on a journey of reflection and acceptance – Cochrane has spent so long letting his career drive him, that he forgot to hit the brakes and take some time to enjoy his life outside of music. The lyrics: “Cause when it’s said and done/You can’t take it all with you/Celebrate it all with everyone you love”; remind himself, and us as listeners, that we are not defined by our achievements and should spend more time focusing on the little things that keep us going in the first place.
Joy In Short Moments will be the band’s fourth album, but only their second released under the band’s very own independent label; founded by Cochrane, along with their management; Happy Artists Records – a very fitting name for the direction their music is heading in.
‘Defibrillator‘, along with singles ‘Summer Rain‘ and ‘Motherlands‘ released earlier this year, sound somewhat reminiscent of previous releases by The Snuts, particularly the likes of the first album under their indie label, Millennials, released in 2024. It’s clear that the band are content with sticking to this uplifting and joyful sound. However – lyrically, these songs come from a more thoughtful and mature perspective, which makes sense given that the band have had plenty of monumental milestones in their personal lives over the past two years. Cochrane explains:
“After three records of constant motion, I felt pulled back towards real life. Success, failure, parenthood and loss all found their way into these songs.”
Overall, I really like their new sound. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of their older stuff, but there’s a thick layer of intimacy on this record that is alluring and inspiring in a modern world of uncertainty.
